Challenge

NPT Homes had a manual spreadsheet system in place that was outdated and time consuming.

Solution

RAM's component accounting software will not only provide an automated system that will save time and reduce human error, but it will also enable NPT Homes to set up different viewing capabilities for different users depending on their role. These security permissions will allow NPT Homes to actively manage what each user can view, edit and gain access to; something that was very important to them as the system will be used throughout various departments.

Another key benefit for NPT Homes was the increased efficiency that would be achieved through integration between the asset management system and their finance system. The system will also help NPT Homes to achieve efficient component accounting and compliance with SORP and FRS 102 regulations.

NPT Homes is one of the largest social landlords in Wales and has 9,188 homes spread throughout South Wales. Under SORP regulations NPT Homes is obliged to divide its asset register into components and has recognised 13 components for each property creating a potential total of 120,000 depreciating assets. NPT Homes has chosen RAM's software to help make the transition from manually maintained spreadsheet records to a fully automated fixed asset management system to help manage these complex component accounting requirements.

Kathryn Roberts, Fixed Asset and Capital Investment Manager at NPT Homes, comments, "The processes we had in place prior to RAM were outdated and could not support the volume of data we had from all of our separate components. We knew that we needed something that was quick, efficient and able to manage a large amount of data in order to operate more effectively and accurately as well as keep in line with the SORP guidelines. It was with this in mind that we decided to implement RAM's solution."

Kathryn Roberts continues, "We were recommended the software by Cardiff Community Housing and after speaking with the team at RAM we quickly realised that they could offer us a solution that would meet all of our component accounting needs."

The system will not only provide an automated system that will save time and reduce human error, but it will also enable NPT Homes to set up different viewing capabilities for different users depending on their role. These security permissions will allow NPT Homes to actively manage what each user can view, edit and gain access to; something that was very important to them as the system will be used throughout various departments.

Another key driver for NPT Homes was the increased efficiency that would be achieved through integration between the component accounting system and their finance system, Aareon QL.

The software will also help NPT Homes to analyse and create historical and future reports from the data as well as ensuring the organisation is fully compliant with the statutory reporting required for SORP and FRS 102.

Kathryn Roberts concludes, "We are really looking forward to implementing the new system so we can start to reap the benefits of the automated system."
