Hospital control £180 million worth of assets with RAM's software

Plymouth Hospitals, the South-West peninsula's largest hospital Trust has signed a new contract with provider of IFRS compliant fixed asset management software, Real Asset Management, delivering a robust and comprehensive asset register designed to cater for over 7,000 assets. The purchase of the software will reduce the burden currently associated with year-end reporting whilst streamlining overall efficiency.

In addition to being the largest hospital Trust in the south-west, Plymouth Hospitals is a major teaching organisation and rapidly developing centre for research. Working within a network of other hospitals, Plymouth Hospitals offers a range of specialist services to a population of up to two million.

Following a rigorous investigation into the fixed asset management software available on the market in 2011, the Trust chose RAM's solution. Rebecca Ferguson, Capital Accountant at Plymouth Hospitals explains, "The licensing on our previous fixed asset system was coming to an end so we considered it a perfect opportunity to survey the market and go out to tender to find the best solution for our needs. After receiving demonstrations from a shortlist of suppliers and considering the services each provider offered, we felt that our needs would be best served by market leaders RAM. RAM demonstrated a strong grasp of our business needs and had many other Oracle / Shared Business Services clients as customers."

Discussing the implementation process, Rebecca Ferguson continues, "We had strong confidence in RAM's ability to deliver a smooth implementation process, knowing they had experienced staff on hand should we need any advice. A large number of acute Trusts in the area also use RAM as a fixed asset software provider and we conducted a consultation process to discover how they rated the software. The feedback we received was highly positive. This feedback, combined with RAM's knowledge of our fundamental NHS business requirements, made the decision to choose the system a simple one."

Looking back and reviewing the working partnership since implementing the RAM software, Rebecca Ferguson adds, "The level of service we have received from the engineers has been excellent. During the implementation stage, where we went through a cycle of inputting and disposing of assets, it was obvious that the RAM consultants had worked with many NHS Trusts before."

Rebecca Ferguson concludes, "RAM understood exactly what we required which allowed for the system to be tailored to our specific needs and requirements and to comply with existing IFRS standards. The software is very user friendly, with innovative reporting functionalities enabling us to deliver reports at the click of a button."
